Making bracelets can be a fun thing to do for people of all ages. You can make bracelets as gifts, for your close friends, or to sell. The great thing about making bracelets is that it doesn’t cost very much but they look great when they are finished. Leather bracelets are an easy type to create and they normally last for a long time without becoming frayed or broken.
Beaded Leather Bracelet
To make a leather bracelet with beads, you’ll need to gather a few materials.
You will need some leather strips or chords, and beads that the leather strips can fit through. You can typically find these items at any store that has arts and crafts products.
You’ll need to cut the leather to size. To do this, you’ll need to measure the wrist and add a couple of inches to make up for the knot you’ll be using to finish the bracelet. You will need two strips of the same size.
Next, tie the two strands together on one end and then, tape it to a surface to make it easier to bead.
To add a bead, simply add it to either one of the two strands. Push the bead to the top. To secure the bead, you’ll need to slide the piece of leather without the bead into the opposite side of the bead creating a loop.
Do this for all of the beads. Finish with a basic knot leaving enough excess to tie the two ends together. Check out all of these leather bracelet tutorials by clicking here.
Braided Bracelet
Another type of leather bracelet that can be fun to make is a braided leather bracelet.
To make this, you’ll need leather strips of whatever size you’d like. Cut three pieces of the leather to the size of your wrist plus a couple of inches.
Next, tie the three pieces together with a basic knot. Tape the knotted side to a flat surface to hold your work while you braid.
To begin the braid, you’ll want to take the leather strip that’s on the right and cross it over the center strip to the left. Then, you’ll take the left strip and place it over the center strip. This will become the new center strip.
Repeat the first step and move the right strip over the center strip. Each time a side strip is moved to the center, it becomes the new center strip. Repeat this until it’s your desired length. Tie off the end when you are finished.
Leather Cuff Bracelet
You’ll need tooled leather in strips, leather glue, a needle for leather, a button or clasp, and waxed linen thread.
Cut the leather strip into a piece that’s two inches wide and the length of the wrist long. Add one inch to the wrist length. Take the leather strip you’ve cut and glue it to the tooled leather of the same size. Allow to dry overnight.
Make a basic stitch around the edges of the bracelet to ensure it won’t come apart. Then use the thread and needle to attach your clasp to the end.
Making bracelets isn’t as difficult as one might imagine. With a little practice, you’ll be making bracelets for everyone you know. Experimenting with different leather, thread, and bead colors can completely change the look of your bracelets even if the design is the same.
